I was one of three people who founded Workthing.com in autumn 1999, funded by Guardian Media Group. In November 2001 we acquired the software firm PeopleBank Technology Ltd, consolidated operations, and then went on to sell the combined business in October 2004.I was directly responsible for all advertising and database products, plus generating partnership revenue. As a board director, I had close involvement in the strategic, people, technology, and P&L issues as the business grew from 3 to 75 staff and both market and product evolved. Workthing became one of the UK’s top 4 generalist jobsites, winning numerous awards including Recruiter Magazine “Best Online Service” two years running. I had key input in to concept, business planning, product development and platform delivery.From a standing start, I built a national sales team of 25, honed a product range and a brand message, and worked to create a supporting CRM and delivery system. As the market changed I restructured the sales team to reduce overall headcount and costs, focus on field selling, improve productivity and ultimately deliver multi-million revenues.
