I founded Talon Technology Pty Ltd in 1987, to explore possible products in advanced composites.Our first major project was the fabrication of an artificial heart for the renowned heart surgeon Victor Chang. In 1988 I created the worlds first carbon fibre field hockey stick which sold in over 20 countries and took Talon to the second biggest brand in the world. Early prototypes of these sticks are now in the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.In 1990 , working with Bang Design we made a revolutionary carbon fibre Cafe Chair, called the Talon Chair it used braided carbon over a foam core that was made in a epoxy RTM process that was years ahead of its time. We even had to make our own RTM resin injectors as nothing on the market was accurate enough.In the 2005 in conjunction with leading surf brand FCS we won the Australian Design Award with the Hydro II lighweight composite fins. We also set up a greenfield factory in Malaysia for the production of the fins.In 2010 we created the Merlin dragon boat paddle and it became the number one paddle world wide, this part of the business was sold in 2018.In 2016 I was appointed an Adjunct Professor in Design at the University of Canberra.Currently I am working on two inhouse projects , the LPM project uses plastic waste and fibre composite technologies to make attractive structural products from low grade unsorted post consumer plastic waste and the Pitch Fibre project were we make a thermally conductive carbon fibre prepreg made entirely from z axis aligned pitch carbon fibre. This prepreg is then used to make strong lightweight parts with extremely high thermal properties.
