Volunteered with Macmillan at Work, part of Macmillan Cancer Support. I spoke to larger employers in Scotland, sharing the Macmillan vision and what the legislation requires in relation to staff affected by cancer, whether living with cancer or caring for someone close to them who is living with cancer.

Geoff established his own company to offer contract services covering Business Model analysis, due diligence, Governance, Systems and Controls, and past business reviews.Geoff has over 30 years’ experience in financial services, 17 of which have been in compliance. Most recently he has been conducting due diligence on IFA firms and been a compliance manager on an acting basis, part of which involved the review of defined benefit transfers. Prior to that he worked for a large consultancy, making the most of his 14 years experience at FSA/FCA.Prior to the regulator he worked with a large life insurer where he specialised in group pensions, SIPP and SSAS. He has also worked within the IFA sector as an advisor.While working for a consultancy firm he conducted face to face assessments of C4 firms, and led on C3 investment firm work. This involved assessing their risk identification and mitigation, as well as management, controls and business models.Geoff has ACII and APFS, including G60.

Geoff worked with 1825 initially on a 9 month contract after which time he was a permanent employee for 6 months in the Risk and Compliance team.Geoff was a key contributor, leading on three due diligence exercises, working closely with other disciplines outside risk and compliance. His regulatory experience was crucial in identifying key issues and making recommendations as to whether to purchase or reject a targeted firm, plotting a route to successful purchase where possible. Respected for his regulatory knowledge, Geoff was a 'go to' person for complex issues. Latterly, he was responsible for the risk and compliance aspects of transitioning a firm purchased by his employer as well as acting as compliance manager within that firm. The latter role involved the implementation of new compliance procedures, pre and post sale checking, including pension transfers, anti moneylaundering checks and monthly reporting to the Board.

Geoff joined Huntswood in December 2013. He led Quality of Advice work for a bank, and engaged with two life insurers advising on new propositions. He advised a new consumer credit entity coming to market, delivered two S166 investment reviews and advised mortgage firms applying for authorisation. He conducted mock FSA interviews for a firm. Geoff also presented and chaired events run by professional bodies on complaints handling and secured lending.

At the FCA/FSA, Geoff was latterly a member of the RDR implementation team, assessing how prepared firms were for RDR. He led thematic work on RDR, Pension Fund Withdrawal and Treating Customers Fairly(TCF). He scoped and oversaw S166 past business reviews in areas such as pensions fund withdrawal, pension switching and Unregulated Collective Investment Schemes (UCIS).Geoff had a broad range of experience in FCA, engaging with both small firms and the larger banks. He also spent 3 years in mortgage supervision. He had success in uncovering both mortgage fraud and investment advice fraud.
