I am an analyst with 10 years progressive experience in asset valuation. I use data analytics (SQL, R, Python, VBA, PowerBI and SPSS) and big data for real-estate appraisal. Currently I am working as an intelligence analyst on a multi-year project replacing our core database system. Prior to this I specialized in commercial appraisal, working on large office buildings and large retail centres at different times. The new system is web-based enabling remote work whileOn my own initiative I taught myself several programming languages (R, Python, SQL, VBA) and created tools which are in widespread use throughout the business today. Some of these tools have seen ten years of continuous use and improvement. For example, an early work on my own initiative was converting a complicated paper-based form for amending valuations to an electronic form with built-in logic. The new form immediately reduced the number of email chains between managers and employees requesting additional info or needing clarification from several per week to almost none.I am constantly looking for ways to improve the business. Asides from the tools I have developed I have been in many other projects ranging from small ad-hoc data analysis to large year-long team efforts. Some of these have been things like a review of how parks affect the valuation of the houses around them, a project that resulted in a 2% drop in the standard deviation of those houses valuation. I do not work in isolation. From the beginning I identified a group of like-minded innovators and, with myself as a "founding" member, we have formed an informal team. This small community of practice bounces ideas off each other, troubleshoots, and helps everyone develop new ideas and communicate them out. This team has done things like build a second parallel modelling process for a portfolio to validate our traditional model. I enjoy being part of an energetic and forward looking team. We have been so successful we have enjoyed formal recognition and resources, while trusted enough to leave self-managed.I have also helped develop people, mentoring 10 new hires as they came on board as the most senior data analyst at the time. Some of these people have gone on to join the innovation group mentioned above, while others have moved up elsewhere in the business.Finally there is my formal education. Asides from two undergraduate degrees (B.Sc Physics and B.A Economics) I have completed a Master's in Finance, one level of the CFA, and a Certificate in Real Property Appraisal.
