In 2016 Chevron formed a new organization to provide targeted support to its most complex and productive assets. I have worked closely with senior leadership to help form and grow this new group. I have helped to formulate and communicate vision, goals, and strategy up to and including the CEO.Some of my other key accomplishments and responsibilities have included:• Directing refinery capital planners and overseeing $250 million annual process safety spending across 5 refineries.• Established 2018 business plan with $42 million budget.• Built relationships and sourced data across 14 disparate sites to deliver a new monthly metrics scorecard to Chevron leadership.• Formulating and communicating vision, goals, and strategy of newly-formed group to C-level executives.
Process Engineer
The Tengiz oilfield is one of the largest producers in the world and with 20% hydrogen sulfide, high pressure, and a remote location, it is also one of the most challenging. For two years, I worked at TengizChevroil on a demanding 28 days on, 28 days off schedule; where I flew between Kazakhstan and my home in San Francisco. My job focus was primarily on process safety, with a particular emphasis on the flare and relief system. Despite minimal knowledge and experience in this area I quickly stepped into my position and made significant impact while navigating cultural and lingual differences. One of my largest accomplishments was successfully leading an investigation of the entire facility for acoustically induced vibration issues. To address this relatively new concern I coded a fit for purpose screening tool allowing me to efficiently evaluate thousands of possible vibration sources and piping vulnerabilities. I worked closely with engineers and operators across the facility and also directed a specialty contractor to analyze flagged fittings in more detail. I also kept senior management appraised of progress throughout this high profile project.
Process Engineer
Chevron’s Energy Technology Company (ETC) provides technology solutions and technical expertise for Chevron operations worldwide. At ETC I performed process Engineering functions for a number of projects at various stages of commercialization. I worked with researchers to establish objectives and then design, construct, and start-up 7 small pilot plants with a combined budget of over $3 million. In most cases, I performed all the process engineering to scale up small batch processes to larger, continuous pilot plant operations with success in every project. While working on these small projects I routinely developed and implemented innovative solutions to improve plant operability and lower costs. In my last year at ETC I was a member of a confidential, project with an estimated budget of $200 million. The objective was to take a completely new technology from the lab bench to full scale operation inside a refinery. I was involved in the large pilot plant phase, as well as front end engineering design for the commercial plant. I planned and successfully executed a vital sampling campaign of extremely hazardous material without disrupting operation at a major facility. I designed, oversaw manufacture and installation of new equipment which improved pilot plant performance. Some other tasks which I performed throughout my time at ETC included:• Performing CAPEX and OPEX economic analysis for a new membrane separation technology. Defined requirements for success by comparison with existing alternatives.• Analysis for 4 major Chevron facilities to inform policy decisions regarding new Green House Gas regulations.• Leading risk management meetings for a multi-million dollar project.
Coiled Tubing Field Engineer
Schlumberger is the worlds largest oilfield services company and is continually pushing the envelope with their technologies and services. During my time at Schlumberger, I worked as a Coiled Tubing Field Engineer on Hibernia, the largest oil rig in the world. My responsibilities consisted primarily in assisting planning and execution of well work-overs. Our team of 12 performed the work in 12 hour shifts, often in inclement weather. Despite my different background from the rest of the team and minimal experience, I quickly integrated in and was given responsibility over critical tasks.
Product Technology Engineer
During my brief internship I assisted in successfully testing and optimizing demulsifying chemicals in a new field. To help accomplish our objectives I worked closely with rig operators despite a language barrier.Additionally, I was responsible for testing over 250 water samples, and ensured that accurate information was provided to the client.
