About Geoff Williams

I've been writing professionally for 30 years (geez, time flies). In that time, I've written for a variety of publications, including U.S. News & World Report (which I write for approximately twice a week and have been doing so since 2013) and have written articles for The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Reuters.com, AARP, AARP Bulletin, GoodRx, Newsweek, Forbes Advisor, Forbes.com, Experian, SmartAsset, CNNMoney.com, CNET, Al Jazeera America, HuffPost, Entertainment Weekly, Ladies' Home Journal, LIFE, Entrepreneur Magazine, Parenting, PetMD.com, Consumer Reports and many more well-known titles, brands and corporations.Primarily, I specialize in personal finance and business articles, but I've covered a multitude of topics throughout my career. For instance, I was a contributing editor at "BabyTalk" for three years, writing a humor column on fatherhood. And I was a newspaper features reporter at "The Cincinnati Post" for a few years. My books include corporate histories on an osteopathic hospital in Dayton, a local car dealership and a manufacturing company in rural Ohio as well as mainstream books, notably "C.C. Pyle's Amazing Foot Race" (Rodale, 2007), "Living Well with Bad Credit" (HCI Books, 2010) and "Washed Away: How the Great Flood of 1913, America's Most Widespread Natural Disaster, Terrorized a Nation and Changed It Forever" (Pegasus Books, 2013).Specialties: Personal finance, real estate, entrepreneurship (in particular, I have written a lot about startup businesses, franchising, business continuity issues, social entrepreneurism); parenting; history; consumer articles; popular culture

Listed skills include Feature Articles, Storytelling, Editing, Publishing, and 39 others.

Geoff Williams Llc

Loveland, Ohio

I'm an author and freelance journalist, specializing in personal finance and business issues. That said, I enjoy writing about almost any topic.

The Tv Professor

Loveland, Ohio, United States

I recently started a pop culture blog called "The TV Professor," though, no, I'm not a TV professor. The idea is that TV can be sort of a professor, and... you know, it's pretty hard to explain. If you're curious, you'll just have to check it out at www.thetvprofessor.com.

Apr 2021 - Present

Contributing Editor/Writer

Babytalk Magazine

BabyTalk, a magazine about, naturally, babies. I used to be a columnist there, writing a humor column (or at least it was supposed to be humorous) about fatherhood. I have two amazing daughters.

2002 - Dec 2007

Features Reporter

Cincinnati Post

The Cincinnati Post was part of a much larger company, Scripps-Howard. This was a part-time position; about 20 hours a week. Wonderful job, lots of fun memories, writing slice of life features about river communities along the Ohio River, popular culture, trends, quirky residents in Cincinnati and, really, I covered almost everything imaginable. I left the job after some reshuffling of the staff--my position was being axed, and I wasn't excited about the openings that they offered me. But I kept freelancing for the paper for several years afterward and will always have good feelings for the Post, R.I.P.

Jan 1999 - Aug 2001

Associate Editor

Bop Magazine

This magazine was a teen entertainment magazine. Despite the silly name, it was a great experience and some terrific training ground for me, in my early 20s. I wrote hundreds of articles about teen celebrities in the mid-1990's and frequently interviewed them on movie and television sets, or followed them around at MTV junkets. I started off as an assistant editor but eventually was promoted to associate editor, the big difference being that one job had the word "assistant" in it, and the other job had "associate" in it. Still, a great job with great memories.

Mar 1993 - Jul 1996

Associate Editor

Popular Ceramics

Hardly worth mentioning, I guess, since I was only there three months, but this was my first writing/editing/publishing job out of college. I was hired to edit articles and did much of the direct work to make sure the magazine was published on time while the publisher looked for a buyer (she was retiring). It was a good educational experience for someone who knew nothing about the magazine industry.
