Gen Re, as a direct reinsurer, is one of the leading property/casualty and life/health reinsurers in the world. We are represented in all major reinsurance markets through a network of more than 40 offices, supported by our S & P AA+ financial rating.My role at Gen Re is to underwrite treaties for clients based in Europe, Latin America and South Africa. My personal line of business specialties include natural catastrophe business (property/engineering/motor) and Ocean Marine treaties.I started my insurance career as a Property Claims Adjuster in a Fire Department where I dealt with the whole variety of customers (private / commercial / industrial), agents, brokers, lawyers and claims experts. During these 3 years I gathered a great deal of experience to understand the original insurance business before I moved to the international reinsurance industry. After having worked for a year in the Accounting Department of a midsize reinsurer which helped a lot understand the "mechanics", I continued my career as a treaty underwriter at Gen Re where I have been working since 1992 in various roles and locations. This included one year "training on the job" in the London office and five years as a treaty underwriter and account executive in the Paris office, where I was responsible for various French clients.My time abroad was a terrific experience in every respect. There is no better way to develop intercultural and foreign language skills.In addition to French and English I also learned Italian.
