George is the VP of Virtual Platforms at TrainingPeaks - he designed, built and brought to market TrainingPeaks Virtual, a new and innovative online cycling application that is defining the future of virtual sport. He was recently recognised as being one of the most impactful people in cycling esports. This success is built on blending George's two parallel life-long careers in technology and sport.● In technology, he spent 25 years developing the computer software that now runs the global telephone network. Working his way up from Software Engineering, Design and Architecture through to Management and Program Direction, George has led large cross-departmental teams at Microsoft, reliably and repeatedly delivering on time and on budget carrier-grade server software to the world's largest telephone companies. In his spare time, he also developed a number of moderately successful computer games as a solo indie developer.● In sport, he is a former elite athlete and competed internationally in rowing, running and cycling. After being diagnosed with a career ending illness and being given just 2 years to live, he had major open heart surgery. Following a full recovery, he reinvented himself in voluntary sports administration roles, helping put back into sport for the next generation what he got out when younger. Highlights include organising one of the test events at the velodrome ahead of the London 2012 Olympics, being elected as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors at British Cycling and being appointed as the chief official at multiple World Championships.George now spends his time focussing on doing the things he loves and brings him joy. He is an ambassador for the British Heart Foundation, and chairs the organising committee for The Boat Race, alongside TrainingPeaks Virtual's mission of transforming cycling together.
