Building on a career as a lawyer, senior telecom executive, head of Canada's Competition Bureau, and Chairman of Advacon Inc., a private advisory firm, George offers legal, strategic and corporate development advice to Canadian and international clients in many sectors of the economy. George (Partner 2002-2018; Senior Counsel 2019 to 2022) was the lead member of the competition and foreign investment review group. He was also a member of the White Collar Investigations and Defence group the Communications group and the Technology group. His practice covered all aspects of competition law, including strategic advice and representation before competition authorities in Canada and abroad in relation to cartels, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, abuse of dominance and reviewable trade practices. George was frequently consulted by Canadian and foreign-based clients and law firms for his insights into major mergers in every sector of the economy, including financial services, energy, communications, transportation, services, retail, food and the agricultural sector. His practice also included advice and representation in relation to the full range of civil and criminal matters under the Competition Act, Investment Canada matters, communications industry issues and general administrative law. He has acted in numerous provincial and federal court proceedings as well as judicial inquiries and has over the years acted as counsel to private sector clients, the Competition Bureau and the Attorney General of Canada in proceedings before the Competition Tribunal and in criminal antitrust proceedings. He has also advised the federal telecom and broadcasting regulator (CRTC)George also had a distinguished career in public service, private practice and the private commercial sector. He headed the Mergers Branch of the Competition Bureau from 1989-1993 and was appointed to head the Competition Bureau from 1993 to 1996. As a leading expert in competition and antitrust law and head of the agency, George represented Canada internationally at bilateral and multilateral meetings. George joined Telus one of Canada's largest telecommunications companies in 1996 as EVP. George returned to legal practice at Davies in 2002.
