My research is centred around the human evolutionary capacity for diverse and extreme locomotor proficiency—running, climbing, swimming and freediving. My collaboration with Shane focuses on exploring the evolutionary basis for diverse human locomotion by working with indigenous groups and small-scale societies. We then look at applying these insights and frameworks to athletes in order to understand and exploit the mechanisms behind converting innate evolutionary aptitude into elite performance. We are particularly interested in the sociocultural components of athletic performance on a cross-cultural scale.

Part of a four-person team operating and managing a remote and self-contained wilderness lodge, including high-end hospitality, catering and guiding, conservation and invasive species control, and general maintenance (track work, field butchery, building, woodwork, quadbike & tractor operation)

Long-term research project involving ten weeks living with an indigenous rainforest community, including community-integration and the development of conversational Batek language skills, multiple jungle-based fieldwork expeditions concerning rainforest foraging techniques, a personal photojournalism project, and the coordination of a collaborative research expedition with movement specialist Shane Benzie into Batek tree-climbing, running and movement perception. Post-fieldwork I presented lectures to the University of Cambridge, the University of Oxford, and industry leaders in rockclimbing research and coaching: Lattice Coaching and Training.

Coordination, leadership and management of international school groups (age 14) in outdoor activities (e.g. rafting, caving, abseiling, trekking) and group hosting/briefing/debriefing. A focus on sustainability/conservation and personal development through the outdoor experience.
