George Bush, M.D., M.M.Sc., is the Chief Medical Officer for MagnetiCareTMS of Long Island, focused on providing state-of-the-art transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy for patients with treatment-resistant depression. He served until 2017 as an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. His 23-year Harvard career shows great breadth. His main focus has been functional imaging research, but his career displays substantial breadth. He has made research contributions in a number of areas ranging from artificial intelligence computer modeling to clinical research and cognitive neuroscience. Dr. Bush has internationally recognized expertise on cingulate cortex. His review article with Dr. Michael Posner has been cited >6,000 times, ranking it among the most frequently cited papers in the fields of psychiatry and cognitive science. Dr. Bush developed the Counting Stroop, and helped create a spin-off Emotional Counting Stroop. He published one of the first-ever fMRI studies of ADHD, and collaborated on studies of schizophrenia, depression, OCD and PTSD. He also developed the Multi-Source Interference Task (MSIT), a protocol used used and referenced internationally in over 200 patient groups including ADHD, schizophrenia, Tourette’s Syndrome, and PTSD. His Archives of General Psychiatry paper compared fMRI effects of methylphenidate and placebo in ADHD, and he extended this with an fMRI paper on atomoxetine. Additionally, he collaborated on studies showing abnormalities of cingulate cortex volume, cortical thickness and connectivity in ADHD.Dr. Bush developed a multi-faceted program of research combining multiple modalities (fMRI, intracranial recordings, cognitive neuroscience, pharmacological MRI and cytoarchitectural techniques). He has lectured on the local, national, and international levels, reviewed for two dozen top-tier journals, served on editorial boards, and served on numerous NIH/NSF grant review panels.
