Research Assistant – Phd Student Fellowship
Current- Modelling ductular tissues to be used for drug discovery platforms:
- Designed and implemented research experiments - testing growth and proliferation of cancerous and nontumorigenic cells to determine the optimum parameters for developing biomimetic in vivo tissue ductular architecture.
- Developed and optimized procedures and protocols to achieve complete circumferential coverage in the circular channel of an LOC by determining the optimal attachment substrates and cell seeding parameters
- Developed biomimetic models of breast ducts and blood vessels by fabricating electrospun scaffolds and assessing scaffold morphology, mechanical properties and biocompatibility using scanning electron microscopy.
- Evaluated LOC and electrospun scaffold biomimicry to breast cancer tissue and blood brain barrier vessels by immunostaining and trans-epithelial electrical resistance (TEER)
- Developed ductular models using 3D printed resins whereby the optimal inner and outer diameters, as well as pore sizes in the ducts, were determined, optimized and subsequently seeded with endothelial cells
Graduate Research Assistant
- Developing wound healing patches for diabetic patients:
- Developed wound healing patches for diabetic patients using cotton gauze and fabricated hydrogels and nanoparticles, enabling a continuous release of growth factors and anti-bacterial agents over several days
- Fabricated stromal derived factor (SDF-1alpha) loaded PLGA nanoparticles using the double-emulsion technique and studied their release profile using ELISA kits
- Studied antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles, chitosan, and curcumin on Gram negative and positive bacteria
- Studied adhesion of nanoparticles on surfaces using quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) machineHeart valve modelling:
- Extracted cow heart valves and conducted rheological studies to determine their rheological properties
Graduate Research Assistant
- Research Assistant at MIT/Harvard Health Sciences and Technology Division. Mechanical Engineering (Master’s Degree) research internship at Dr. Khademhosseini’s laboratory, collaborating with a Biomedical Engineering.
- Conducted mechanical testing on hydrogels – fabricated and characterized GelMA hydrogel and PLGA nanoparticles; performed tensile tests of hydrogels using the Instron machine
- Improved testing procedures and protocols for hydrogel tensile testing and reduced the standard deviation of the ultimate tensile strength of samples from 60% to 10%
- Studied the release profiles of proteins and growth factors in nanoparticles
- Researched biocompatibility by seeding cells in hydrogels
Subcontracts Engineer
- Oversaw the subcontract bidding and awarding phase for various projects with Petrofac – a leading British provider of oilfield services to the international Oil and Gas industry
- Forecast project costs and ensured cost efficiencies by onboarding best-fit partners – prepared and sent out Invitations to bid, evaluated subcontractor offers, and negotiated contracts for optimal pricing and delivery.
Piping Engineer
- Prepared inquiry and tendering documentation and technical datasheets for all awarded projects – including purchase requisitions, bill of quantities and price estimations of piping packages
- Enabled efficient procurement of materials – evaluated vendor offerings, made recommendations to the procurement team and conducted quality control checks on all supplied material
Undergraduate Research Assistant
- Mechanical Engineering (Bachelor’s Degree) internship to research the microstructure change in iron due to corrosion resistant plating processes:
- Hands-on practical experience in equipment use, testing and imaging
- Prepared and refined samples for tests (molding, polishing and etching); conducted mechanical hardness (Vickers) tests; analyzed test results and prepared reports
