I was promoted into this management position after a highly-successful tenure as a Staff Auditor, and immediately assumed responsibility for managing and improving the performances of multiple audit teams responsible for executing 30 financial audits of hedge funds, broker dealers, management companies and commercial businesses. Due to my success, I was quickly selected by our executive management team to be the primary auditor of the audit team to ensure operational compliance with internal SOPs, external regulations and meeting client expectations. A typical day in this role consisted of leading reviews of financial statements including net capital computations and disclosures for commercial businesses, investment partnerships, and broker dealers to comply with FINRA, CIMA, Form PF and SEC requirements, as well as performing root cause analyses of reporting anomalies.As I did in all my professional roles, I made it a point to proactively identify opportunities for improvements to internal controls, and accounting/auditing operations. My first role with BDO involved frequent collaboration with the CFO and extended executive management team to plan and execute all aspects of the audit process including communications with financial institutions, attorneys, and third party service providers within aggressive timelines.Much of my time was spent conducting audit sampling and other substantive tests to ensure the accuracy and efficacy of financial audits of hedge funds, broker dealers, and commercial businesses. My success in this role provided me with increased responsibilities, such as establishing the pricing of level one investments, and reviewing all IT audits and internal controls evaluations to ensure compliance with SSAE 16 and SAS 70 requirements.What may have clinched my promotion into a leadership position was my constant performance evaluations of all Staff Auditors, and subsequent creation of action plans to elevate the production of underachievers.
