In order to gain practical legal experience while continuing my career in FX trading, I wrote and argued criminal appellate briefs on behalf of indigent defendants through the Designated Counsel program of the Essex County Public Defender. Appeals were assigned to independent attorneys who received a small fee to handle the case.Argued State v Jeffrey Zhu, 165 N.J. 544, before the New Jersey Supreme Court on the issue of whether heightened security measures employed by the court during trial deprived defendants of their right to a fair trial. Achieved some measure of relief for clients in about 20% of the cases.
