As a director on the Business development team, my role is to lead a team focused on the integration of new technologies into MDS’s capabilities. Opportunities are evaluated and developed based on their commercial and technical viability. Under this mandate, I lead the growth of MDS’s capabilities in Hybrid Electric test, capabilities in hydrogen test, and the introduction of technologies focused on decarbonization within aviation and industrial power;Highlights:Developed a phased approach geared towards partnering with clients to collectively tackle decarbonization. This has led to MDS’s continual growth in knowledge and future revenue;Led the MDS team that partnered with a Canadian research based organization to conceptualizer a world class facility in Hybrid-Electric test;Continued to act as an account executive for key accounts;Led a team executing small projects with total annual revenue of $2-3M;

The Director of Proposals is responsible for the management of all proposals submitted to MDS’ potential customers worldwide. Working with the Business Development team, the Director of Proposals plays a key role in the ultimate satisfaction of MDS Clients, while ensuring that proposal deliverables are achieved in a timely and cost effective fashion. The Director of Proposals oversees a group of Proposal Managers & Estimators and associated in house support staff to ensure they are leading and driving proposals through to a successful conclusion, utilizing a mixture of management, business analysis and relationship building skills.

The Proposal Manager role is an outward facing one that allows me to work closely with our customers to collaborate on the development of technical solutions that fit within budgetary and schedule expectations. In this role I work with a highly motivated team that develops both the technical solution and the business solution. The role has allowed me to build relationships and trust with our customers and to help them meet their objectives with technologically appropriate solutions which minimize risk.The specific responsibilities in this role are:- To take a leadership position in the development of the proposal to the customer, including overall responsibility for the technical solution, schedule, and delineation of responsibilities;- Interaction with internal departments and subject matter experts in the development of the technical solution being proposed;- Work with the customer to ensure that the proposal will meet expectation and will fulfill their technical requirements;The scope of the proposals vary from a single engine adapter to augment current test capability to a completely new facility for a greenfield site.

-Provide technical leadership and design direction to engineering teams on a project basis;-Synthesize customer requirements and establish technical direction for in-house and contract engineering, ensuring adherence to project budget and schedule;-Flag technical, schedule and budget risks to project team and ensure that they get addressed;-Facilitate design development and plan and manage interdisciplinary system interfaces;-Report progress and technical and commercial risk to project team;-Develop and manage systems level schedules and budgets;-Liaise with clients, including the management of all engineering coordination and design review documentation;-Led team to “world class” customer presentations with an industry leading customer;-Worked with vendors to improve manufacturability and cost effectiveness of structural designs;

-Engineered MDS’ flagship Thrust Measurement System, rated for 150,000 lbf;-Engineered MDS’ 50,000 lbf Thrust Measurement System;-Developed mechanical designs for aero engine and industrial engine mounting structures, and material handling systems, taking into account material stress, mounting stiffness, thermal factors, -Worked closely with designers and draftspersons to develop manufacturing drawings for machined components and large weldments, using GD&T;-Analyzed structures for stress and stiffness using FEA (ANSYS);-Supported the Project Management team by managing site installation of engine test systems, often in international locations;-Supported the Marketing group by assisting in the development of proposals, including concept development, estimating, and ensuring specification adherence;-Acted as mentor to junior and intermediate engineers;-Resolution of design, fabrication and installation problems.
