Paperpotamus is a Canadian greeting card wholesale & distribution company, supplying very high quality cards to the retail trade including gift, floral, stationers, book, chocolatiers, etc.

Starting as a sales rep, selling stainless steel waterless cookware directly to the end consumer. We also carried beautiful German china, Rogers stainless steel cutlery, crystal etc. We mostly cold called customers or approached prospects to offer them a chance at a prize draw and a free gift if they would watch a presentation of our cookware products. I quickly became quite successful, breaking the companies all time monthly sales record within 3 months and repeating that a year later. Over the years, other records were achieved but mostly it was a lot of fun to work with so many motivated colleagues. In January 1972, as a field trainer, I was transferred to Burnaby where I became the Assistant Manager doing recruiting, hiring, product training & sales training, expected to maintain my personal sales at the same level I had been. It was difficult but fun, as I was also planning motivational / training meetings for every morning to get everyone, including myself, enthusiastic to be out making sales calls and selling each day. Again the best part was the people I met and worked with, some who are still my closest friends to this day.I couldn't imagine any sales training more effective than what we had at World Wide. Each morning we were all expected to be at a general training / motivational meeting. We listened to records by Earl Nightengale, Zig Ziglar and many others. Zig used to regularly come to work with us as did his brother Horace. Zig was always present at our twice yearly conventions where everything we'd won for the past 6 months was awarded to us. My top prize was a new 1972 Cougar Convertible. In addition to our morning meetings, we each had to write a letter to the owner each night, giving details about our day, including what we'd learned from whatever tape or book we'd been reading or listening to that day. Challenging but personally rewarding for the training it gave all of us for life in the real world later on.
