I counsel private and public sector employers on all types of employee benefit plans, including defined benefit pension plans, 401(k) and 403(b) plans, multiemployer plans, medical benefit plans, cafeteria plans, disability plans and other benefit plans. Working with employers and administrative committees, I regularly advise on the fiduciary oversight of plans, including retirement plan investments, appropriate plan expenses and claims for benefits and related plan administration issues.I am actively involved in the firm’s business transactional practice, working with employers to manage the transition of employees and their benefits during and after a merger or acquisition, as well as ERISA and tax issues arising when investing in and structuring private equity and similar investments.I have substantial experience with executive compensation issues and advising employers and executives on compliance with Section 409A of the Internal Revenue Code. I draft non-qualified deferred compensation arrangements, supplemental executive retirement plans, severance plans, change-in-control agreements, and stock-based compensation plans.I also have significant experience advising employers on IRS and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) plan audits and enforcement action.I recently concluded a 3-year term on the CT Retirement Security Board. The Board developed a comprehensive proposal for the implementation of a state sponsored retirement plan for employees of private sector employers. The MyCTSavings Program is now live and benefiting employees who otherwise would not have access to employer sponsored retirement plans.
