Through partnerships with fisher community, industry, governments and non-government organisations, I1) I provide strategic direction and technical support in the development of a freshwater and coastal fisheries conservation programme for TNC Africa Region; 2) I support, coordinate and help implement TNC's Fisheries Strategy activities across Africa Region;3) I support partnerships with fishers, industry, and governments to improve fisheries monitoring, demonstrating sustainable community-based management practices, advancing supportive policies, and creating market incentives that reward sustainable fishing practices; 4) I liaise closely with TNC's Country Program Directors/Managers in Africa to support their fisheries demonstration projects, currently in Kenya, Tanzania, Gabon and Seychelles; 5) I support the site-based projects to transition from open-access fisheries to rights-based management, by using among others community managed areas locally managed marine areas (LMMAs), data poor stock assessment methods and private agreements with fishermen and industry; 6) I disseminate our Fisheries Strategy-related best practices ensuring linkages and cross fertilization of knowledge between geographies and practitioners including developing key partnerships.

Through partnership with fisher communities, NRT-Coast, government and non-government agencies and fishing industry, I1) provided strategic direction and technical support in the development of a marine and coastal conservation programme on Lamu-Tana Delta to promote sustainable management of marine and coastal resources;2) helped design and implement conservation and community stewardship actions that are helping conserve key marine habitats in Northern Coast Kenya;3) supported, developed, coordinated and implemented community-based projects that are helping secure community rights to manage fisheries resources (e.g. co-management areas, locally managed marine areas - LMMAs);4) supported designing and implementation of science-based management and monitoring plans and tools that are supporting conservation and sustainable resource use mostly community-based marine and fisheries monitoring;5) contributed local lessons to inform regional and nation-level policy reforms and conducted learning exchanges on fisheries, mangrove, coral reef, marine managed area design, tools and best practices; 6) supported piloting of community-based enterprises to incent sustainable fishing practices;
