Avery's Village is a Youth Residential Center (YRC II) 24-hour facility with open access to the surrounding Wyandotte County community designed to provide for the safety, care, service, support and development of foster youth to achieve a higher level of functioning and healthier relationships.

The Deputy Director of Kansas Permanency Services - Area 5 works in conjunction with the Executive Director of Kansas Programs & Services to meet strategic priorities and lead, develop, and empower teams to achieve the highest level of program excellence, performance outcomes, and financial health within a child welfare portfolio. The Deputy Director ensures rigorous program evaluation, budgetary alignment, communications and systems by providing disciplined, strategic direction to address internal day to day operations of impactful programs and services. The Deputy Director is driven by purpose, advances objective solutions to complex challenges, and cultivates diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Deputy Director is committed to whole person health and permanency for children, youth, and families served through the Kansas Child Welfare system. For the past two years my principle role has been in developing and delivering statewide fatherhood, leadership and mentoring training in collaboration with community partners. This includes authoring the HOPE Mentoring program curriculum to be used to train up to 1,000 mentors of our TANF clients. I am also involved in developing, scheduling and delivering up to 9 Continuing Education Unit courses for DCF social helping professions on a variety of relevant topics to assist with licensing renewal requirements.

Providing leadership for the development and implementation of family strengthening initiatives for the Departmentfor the state of Kansas.

The delegated Single State Authority for addiction and prevention services for the state of Kansas managing the $46 million in state and federal funds with a staff of 23 including 5 managers to partner with 270 providers to promote prevention and recovery services in Kansas Communities. Monitoring up to 85 grants annually to meet federal and state statutory requirements, developing and promoting effective public policy, analyzing national and Kansas data and disseminating accurate information and continuous improvement through the development and evaluation of programmatic and human resources to reduce substance use disorder.

Led four distinct single year projects through partnerships with four different organizations funded by the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City, the Kauffman Foundation and Federal Head Start Grant Funds. Wrote the four project proposals and then developed, implemented and evaluated the programming for: father involvement for homeless fathers, family violence prevention, head start father involvement and male youth development.

Led this national organization’s effort to create an urban father outreach model that results in measurable, sustainable positive outcomes for children and urban communities. Creativity and collaboratively managed staff and partnered with organizations to utilize a community outreach strategy to reach, teach and keep healthy fathers involved in the lives of their children. Developed, implemented and managed fathering education and programming through the three outreach channels of social service agencies, churches and educational systems.
