The company provided (it was acquired from Hellas on Line later on) bandwidth and telecom services of high speeds, based on its privately-owned fibre optic network, to major organisms/companies/enterprises. These services can be categorized to these three main different protocols of communication: DSL, SDH, Ethernet (either P2P or by optical multiplexing). The company provided (it was acquired from Hellas on Line later on) bandwidth and telecom services of high speeds, based on its privately-owned fibre optic network, to major organisms/companies/enterprises. These services can be categorized to these three main different protocols of communication: DSL, SDH, Ethernet (either P2P or by optical multiplexing). My main duties in the company were focused in the direct confrontation of faults and their restoration for the proper operation of the network, the maintenance of the core equipment and the implementation of new circuits that concern the SDH, Ethernet and xWDM part of the network. Based on this, my knowledge has deepened in the fields of Ethernet-SDH-WDM having of course enough knowledge on DSL too. The knowledge on the design of the network in its core (xDWDM, STM64, 10GigE) and also on its access side (xDSL, E1, 2Mbps) was necessary in order to face every day’s challenges. Also, cooperation between the departments required the assistance of engineers to other works e.g. when installing/uninstalling equipment, physical layer works (welding fibres due to damages on roads) and of course upgrading/maintaining equipment.
