Profile bio

About George Lohay, Ph.D

I have extensive experience in ecology having worked in the field for more than 8+ years, as a research assistant for Serengeti Lion Project, for my Ph.D. on elephants, and as a collaborator on my Masai Giraffe Project. I am a highly motivated Scientist with a strong background in Ecology and Population Genetics. I enjoy hiking and photography on weekends. I thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment that will apply my genomic expertise along with my creative problem-solving skills to transfer scientific knowledge into products in an innovative biotech company.I spent the last eight years developing skills as a molecular biologist for our lab, working cohesively with collaborators from different Universities and organizations. Project and time management were developed from conducting 5 projects and mentoring 4 undergraduate and one graduate student simultaneously. I have strong communication and interpersonal skills as evidenced by assisting in teaching undergraduate courses ranging from 10-40 students, and organizing workshops and symposiums for over 75 students and postdocs. My research has involved next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis (MiSeq, HiSeq). Through this, I have developed expertise in microsatellite marker identification, variants calling, population genetic genome-wide association study, comparative analysis, and data analysis using R and population genetic software.I am actively seeking new opportunities, with over 8 years of technical and professional experience relevant to research scientist (molecular biologist/ecologist /analyst), cross-functional collaborator, project management, and functional genomics positions.
