Transition to lead safety and cybersecurity requirements at controls & software implementation level.Communicator to senior leadership (CISO, CIO, VPs, Engineering President) on technical concepts, vulnerability investigations, and cybersecurity outreach initiatives at monthly steering committee.Manager of 3 full-time resources and 6 off shore resources in composition of safety and cybersecurity technical requirements for development of in-house software delivery.Primary interface to operational safety & security department head, serving as a stakeholder in the development of ISO/SAE 21434 aligned Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS).

Steered weekly vehicle cybersecurity workgroup comprised of representatives from: Systems Engineering, Connected Vehicle, Functional Safety, Legal, Quality, Architecture, and Enterprise Security Performed [TARA] risk assessments to derive functional cybersecurity goals and requirements to be implemented on next generation vehicle architecture with alignment to ISO/SAE 21434.Supplier engagement lead; providing assessment of compliance to functional cybersecurity requirements for vehicle programs and identifying risk to product security in accepting deviations.Developed processes and procedures for requirements development, supplier capability assessments, secure ECU credential management and product incident response.Navistar contact for the Automotive Information Sharing & Analysis Center (AUTO-ISAC) gathering knowledge of industry best practices from several sources: AUTO-ISAC, NHTSA, SAE, ISO, and NIST.

A restructuring of engineering departments relocated me to the controls and software department. I was no longer responsible for hardware logic drawings, however my role as a feature lead for requirements grew to oversee 100+ features. The added category of transmission puts me in familiar territory, yet allows me to approach it as a mature engineer with a fresh perspective.I continued to take on an increased role in drafting vehicle cyber security requirements as well as conducting supplier capability assessments.

I engaged with one of Navistar's employee resource groups PLAN (Professional Latino Association at Navistar) and held the position of Mentoring and Development Chair for 9 months. During my tenure i strove to engage the membership and keep the channels of communication open given the COVID-19 pandemic prohibiting in-person activities. Although i originally aimed to create a mentorship program, i quickly found myself administrating Microsoft Teams, Yammer, and Sharepoint platforms and found that a role in communications better suited my interests and gave me the opportunity to make the best contribution with the use of limited time. I resigned from my post as Mentoring and Development chair but continue to participate of the Communications committee.

Upon my return to Navistar I assumed the role of Feature Lead for over 50 vehicle features across Chassis, Brakes, Data Recording, Door Controls, and Over the Air Controls. I was tasked with releasing requirements for software and hardware implementation along with approving the work of feature engineers that fell within my feature categories. My responsibilities extended as well to the release and approval of hardware logic drawings to be used in the first Mentor Graphics generative harness to be used on a production vehicle.Tasked as team process lead I created templates for our work products, established formatting standards, and documented our work instructions. To aid in the efficiency of our team and cut out repetitive work I managed a peer creating a Java based application that automated the creation of customized templates which gave an estimated 15% boost in efficiency.Upon my request I was added to Navistar’s vehicle cybersecurity workgroup, where vehicle cybersecurity concerns are evaluated, and requirements are developed. I participated as an active contributor to the team, whose work products include threat assessments, attack models, cybersecurity goals , functional requirements, technical requirements, and device requirements structured and modeled after SAE J3061.

Led BMW / Rolls Royce coach door module (CDM) validation team as interim project lead tosuccessfully identify critical software bugs before software release to the customerAssembled detailed reporting on every software release by compiling results data,found issues, assumptions, and limitations.Utilized vector CANoe to automate testing, simulate control modules, and simulateLIN slaves via CAPL programming.

Validated developed software for embedded control units to meet the requirements ofseveral OEMs such as BMW, GM, and FCA before a product is released to the customer.Wrote bench level test cases to meet functional requirements, accommodate changerequests to functionality, or verify the resolution of existing software issues.Performed manual and automated testing on embedded devices including discretesignals, visual indicators and multiplexed communications such as CAN and LIN.

Increased feature responsibilities include: Heated Mirrors, Power Mirrors, Electric Horn, Transmission Retarder, Tire Pressure Monitoring, and Engine Brake Request.Drawing on my previous experience with the transmission team, I have been identified frequently as the main contact for any electrical system requirements pertaining to transmission modules, shifters, and associated functionality.Serve as a Mentor for new employees to educate them on our systems process and establish their productivity as soon as possible.Participate in document structure, revision, and standards reviews to increase integrity and efficiency of requirements decomposition.Respond to dealer special quote feature requests for trial applications and small test orders that lead to greater purchases and revenue if the customer is satisfied.Interact on cross functional teams to develop next generation vehicle features and pursue cost reduction by establishing clear deliverables and expectations.Review logic drawings made by peers for inconsistencies or revisions in anticipation of final production harness release.

Responsible for the systems requirements and implementation documentation for various vehicle features including: Transmission Module I/O, Transmission Shifter, Automatic Neutral, Automatic Start/Stop, and Starter Interlocks.Developed educational documentation and workshop to increase feature research efficiency by using existing proprietary database systems.Interfaced with software, hardware, and powertrain stakeholders by hosting transitional sign-off meetings for completed systems documentation.Created logical drawings to support automated wiring harnesses creation for several vehicle platforms using Mentor Graphics Capital Logic.

Transitioned Allison Gen 4 control architecture to Gen 5 by creating over 100 transmission feature codes and an estimated 1000 edits to the driveline database.Responded to manufacturing vehicle coding issues by creating and initiating a mitigation plan within 24 hours of first notification.Monitored the purchasing contract dates and manufacturing break dates to ensure a smooth transition for production configuration releases.One of only three Navistar engineers to receive specialized training for Allison Transmission software reflashing on engineering vehicles.Composed vehicle ordering selection rules in the central database management system (CDMS) to ensure compatibility for all valid powertrain combinations.Represented the transmission team at change review boards comprised of manufacturing representatives in support of calibration change requests.

Led group of fellow new hires in weekly reviews for the first 3 months to share our varied experiences while in training.Stationed in Fort Wayne, IN for several months to learn from engineers departing the company in anticipation of engineering design transition to Lisle, IL.Acquired skills during training, which included CDMS releases, end of line parameter database entry, and use of diagnostic and data logging tools..

Built mobile testing racks capable of servicing a dozen control modules at a time.Constructed 10+ portable suitcase units for remote module testing.Diagnosed and troubleshot circuit boards, harness assemblies and diagnostic equipment as requested.

Instructed incoming freshman students for PrepMe, a summer program aimed at increasing mathematics placement exam scores.Served as a supplemental instructor in Algebra, Calculus, and Intro to Electrical Engineering coursework.
