As a research assistant at the University of Maine, I was responsible for carrying out research projects designed to inform management decisions regarding anadromous fish passage at hydroelectric dams. Together with several technicians, other graduate students, and university faculty, I deployed and maintained receiver arrays to monitor movements of tagged fish in the Penobscot River system with both radio and PIT telemetry. Following data collection, I worked with other graduate students and external experts to manage a collaborative database of fish telemetry information collected by UMaine, USGS, NOAA, Maine Dept. of Marine Resources, and Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. Analyses of these data are presented in periodic reports to funding agencies, discussions with stakeholder groups, professional conferences, and peer-reviewed publications.• Fish tagging and telemetry (radio and PIT tags)• Development of data storage procedures and data processing tools• Training and supervision of field crews• Design, fabrication, and maintenance of an electrofishing boat• Design, fabrication, and maintenance of an array of PIT tag antennas• Communication of results to stakeholders including state agencies, federal agencies, the Penobscot Indian Nation, NGOs, hydroelectric companies, and public interest groups

As a graduate research assistant at LCRI, my primary focus was black bass tagging and radio telemetry on Lake Champlain. As part of this project, I also developed an online presence for LCRI to reach out to anglers and encourage participation in our mark-recapture study. Additionally, I designed a centralized database on a server for project participants to upload new information and access existing data. These data were used to prepare reports for stakeholders including the New York State Dept. of Environmental Conservation, the Lake Champlain Fisheries Technical Committee, the Lake Champlain Basin Program, bass tournament directors, and interested community members. Aside from the bass project, I assisted in a variety of aquatic research endeavors at LCRI.• Operating research vessels in support of LCRI projects including fish telemetry, plankton/mysid monitoring, classroom activities at SUNY Plattsburgh, and fisheries sampling• Training and supervision of field crews• Database design and management• Assembly, operation, and maintenance of an electrofishing boat• Communicating results to stakeholders including state agencies, NGOs, tournament directors, and the angling community
