I worked in the Log Management Services unit, performing analysis of log data to develop critical security event signatures used for malware detection, unauthorized privilege escalation and other sensitive security-related activities. Our service integrated with and complimented the Intrusion Detection and Intrusion Prevention Services, and is part of our Managed Security Services offering. I was originally hired by Verisign for this position. They divested this division in July 2009 to Secureworks, who sold it to Dell Services in February 2011.

Created and designed enterprise identity management and access control products resold by IBM, HP, CA and others. Managed a team of local and offshore developers, technical support and QA personnel. Specialized in LDAP-compatible agents for the IBM mainframe and security administration tools.

I co-founded Security Integration in 1990, initially serving as Chief Technical Officer. We created and sold mainframe software packages that centralized authentication and access control for various popular applications. Our clients consisted mainly of large U.S public companies, including financial institutions, retail conglomerates and utilities. In 1993-1994, I authored a patent (#5305456) for our methodology. In 1995, I became president of the company. Subsequently, we extended our technology by creating an LDAP server running on the mainframe that interfaced with mainframe security. Netegrity, and later CA, redistributed this product as the SiteMinder Security Bridge. We sold the assets of the company to Rocket Software in a two-part transaction executed in 2002 and 2004. I then worked as a product author at Rocket Software until October, 2006.

In the administration unit, performed MVS and CICS systems programming tasks. Also took courses in the BU computer science department, including a year-long course with Marian Moore in which I wrote a functional operating system for the OS/390 platform in Assembler. This course was one of the finest I have ever taken and a highlight of those years.

Developed and maintained IBM mainframe applications for an early cable television multi-system operator, Colony Communications. Highlight included developing a mulit-platform interface between the mainframe and Scientific Atlanta set-top cable TV converter boxes that communicated via HP3000s and the cable system headends.

Performed mathematical modelling and statisitical analysis using Fortran and the SAS, SPSS and BMDP statistical packages. Also programmed Skinner boxes for pigeons using super-SKED, which has to be among the most obscure programming languages. My personal research was in quantitative behavioral analysis, and I co-authored one or two published papers on this topic.
