Editor-In-ChiefBoston Magazine 1975 - 1978Boston, MaRecruited to become Editor-in-Chief at 26 yrs. old after invaluable training at New York Magazine. Back in mid-seventies Boston was home to an astonishing pool of journalistic talent. Thanks to the work of a young, imaginative, and fearless team of writers, editors, designers, and photographers, we transformed Boston Mag from a failing, timid Chamber-of-Commerce spin-off into an award-winning, dynamic publication. -
Arts & Entertainment EditorNew York Magazine 1972 - 1975New York, NyStarted out at New York Magazine as the mailboy. Imagine sorting mail for Tom Wolfe, Nora Ephron, Jimmy Breslin, Dick Reeves, Gail Sheehy, Nik Cohn and, of course, Clay Felker and Milton Glaser. Talked my way into the newsroom and onto the arts and entertainment section of the mag, and worked with Judith Crist, Barbara Rose, Tom Hess, Alan Rich, and John Simon. (Thanks to John I made it as a clue in the Sunday Times Crossword: Clue: John Simon's editor. Answer: panhandler.) In some ways the rest of my career could be viewed as attempts to re-create the thrill of walking into that newsroom every morning.
