Developed a commercial medical device used as a bone void filler in posterolateral spinal fusions while serving on a multi-functional team. Designed and conducted experiments to quality-test the surgical handling capabilities of the bone void filler using lyophilization/rehydration techniques, compression testing, shear testing, impact testing, and tensile testing. Altered the lyophilization cycle for the bone void filler to conserve space, time, and cost for mass production. Worked on coming up with a method to keep cortical pins in an aseptic environment during transfer and avoided infringing on currently active patents. Submitted technical report detailing methods used for optimization of lyophilization cycle used in stability study.

Analyzed the effects of cigarette smoking on breast cancer development in female mice exposed in utero. Performed a morphometric comparison of mammary gland structures in exposed and unexposed mice using hematoxylin and eosin staining, proliferating cell nuclear antigen staining, and statistical analysis. Handled mice by housing, feeding, mating, weighing, euthanizing, and dissecting them. Submitting manuscript for publication to the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine.
