Epsrc Summer Intern
Professor Sasha Hinkley has carried out one of the largest surveys to directly image planets and substellar companions at the W.M. Keck Observatory. The survey was carried out using adaptive optics and coronagraphy at infrared wavelengths and covered more than 200 stars, making it a substantial effort in the broader exoplanet community. Numerous pieces of analysis related to this survey still needed to be completed, such as: 1) establishing if candidate planetary mass companions in our images are indeed gravitationally bound to the star; 2) documenting the overall demographics of the targets in the survey; and 3) establishing the overall sensitivity to planetary mass companion throughout the entire survey and comparing this to other efforts at 8-10m class telescopes across the globe.
