L'Arche is an international charity that provides housing and support for adults with learning disabilities. With its origins in France, L'Arche seeks to provide a place of belonging to people with even the most complex needs. I led all aspects of L'Arche London's work and this included a fundraising campaign to substantially improve our main centre and ability to provide daytime activities.

I headed the communications team and led media, marketing and digital communications. I supported the new senior team leading a major change programme to improve the Council's performance and engagement of the local community. I improved communications on child protection issues and set up a new team to develop the promotion of the Tottenham regeneration programme.

I was the Vice Chancellor, Dame Professor Janet Beer's principal communications adviser. I supported her role as Chair of the University Alliance and the National Steering Group for the National Student Survey. I advised her on all significant internal and external engagements. I secured three visits by Cabinet Ministers to the University and led communications on the University's sometimes contentious £150m redevelopment programme. In this Senior Civil Service role I set up and managed a new stakeholder and events team at BIS following the creation of the new department. I developed and secured Board agreement for a new relationship management strategy and ensured it was implemented. I managed the team that led on media visits and events for all the Department’s Ministers, including Lord Mandelson and gave communications advice on the development of the independent review of tuition fees.

I established the press office team for this new Department. I was principal media adviser to the Secretary of State, John Denham, his Ministerial team and the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser. I built a strategy for proactive media engagement to support the Department’s overall objectives and I also took responsibility for the development of a new Ministerial communications unit to support wider stakeholder relations. I managed the merger of this team into BIS.

I was promoted twice to become responsible for the daily management of 14 press officers. I worked for a number of senior Ministers including Alistair Darling and Douglas Alexander, leading the handling on a number of contentious media issues including road pricing, major rail and airport incidents and the downfall of Railtrack. I succeeded in significantly reducing negative coverage in a through proactive media and stakeholder engagement.
