About George Kemp

I am a London trained, Sydney based writer, arts educator, director and former actor. My debut novel, "Soft Serve", has recently been acquired by UQP and will be published shortly. The novel was written as part of Allen and Unwin and Faber & Faber's 2023/4 Writing Academy. I was the winner of The Australian Theatre for Young People/Griffin Theatre Company Foundation Commission Award, having my play "Shack" published in 2021 by Playlab and performed continuously around the world. "Shack" will be included in the 2026 NSW Syllabus. I was commissioned to write a sold out adaptation of "The Nutcracker" for Australian Chamber Orchestra in 2023. The show will be returning in 2024. I am also a fiction and feature article contributor for arts publications Audrey Journal and Sweaty City Magazine, and beginning to work in television. I am currently Education Manager and Resident Artist at Australian Theatre for Young People and have been working in the entertainment industry for the last 15 years, working with Sydney Theatre Company, Bell Shakespeare, Hampstead Theatre (UK), The Young Vic (UK), Steppenwolf Theatre Company (USA) and Sport for Jove as well as national and international commercial campaigns and theatrical tours for companies such as Mischief Theatre Company and Pop-Up Globe. I am also a member of the international audition tour panel for London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in Singapore and Sydney, as well as presenter at multiple conferences, both in Australia and internationally. I have previously taught and directed for NIDA Open, Bell Shakespeare, Australian Theatre for Young People, Sydney Theatre School, Excelsia College, Brent St Studios and Sport for Jove
