I am currently in a time of reflection and options evaluation.I recently completed 2+ years of service as the director for the U.S. Department of Energy's Arctic Energy Office (AEO), on loan from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In this capacity I worked with the AEO team to standup the office and lead its work as we coordinated implementation of the DOE mission in the domestic and international arctic region.As a research professor with the Alaska Center for Energy and Power at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, my focus areas included technology maturation / transition for thermal energy systems and related components, power generation, energy storage (thermal as well as electrical) and energy management, with emphasis on their relation to the integration of affordable, high reliability isolated electrical grids and sustainable community development / capacity / resiliency building. At Boeing, I worked in research and development efforts for a range of technologies (e.g., thermal management, vehicle subsystems, crew protection, energy harvesting, energy storage, alternative energy) and their integration with products sold by Boeing and its teammates. I have served in both engineering and management capacities on multiple company, industry and government-funded endeavors. My most recent assignment focused on technology maturation in the areas of energy systems for commercial aircraft.
