Converted their entire server infrastructure from a complicated web of puppet, chef and opsworks to uniform infrastructure of docker containers running on coreos and AWS ECS. This reduced the numbers of servers they need in production from 60 to just 14. This ensured that their dev, staging, and production environments were identical, and what worked in staging wouldn't have any surprises when it moved to production.Made all the environments and applications self healing. During a failure, tasks are automatically rescheduled on other nodes.Made the staging environment running completely on AWS spot instances. This has the added benefit of testing our self healing everytime the spot price goes up.Used terraform to both document the environments and ensure their described state is the state that is currently running. - Managed a collection of 300 loosely connected linux machines, as well as helped with the design of a 500+ node HPC cluster. - Created scripts to ease the provisioning of VMs for clients. - Scaled our puppet install from 50 to 300 nodes. - Pivoted our RHEL machines to CentOS machines live and without rebooting. - Uprooted our VMWare installation, and replanted it to both upgrade to VMWare 5 as well as move off a dying vCenter server. - Created a highly available, multi-site, IRC service to provide real time communications during emergencies. - Recommend, implemented, and maintain Splunk for log management. - Made our puppet master redundant and multi-site, and made the machines they manage automatically select which master they should talk to. - Trained all new hires since I was hired; helping them get up to speed on our environment and the technologies we use.
