I am an active volunteer and former Board president of the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, which operates the Santa Barbara Bowl under a long-term lease arrangement with the County of Santa Barbara. Built in 1936 with federal funding from the Depression-era WPA, the Santa Barbara Bowl was originally designed to serve as an annual performance venue for Santa Barbara's Old Spanish Days annual celebration (commonly known as Fiesta). In 1995, the Bowl Foundation created a comprehensive, long-range restoration and renovation Master Plan and over $35mm had been contributed by the community for significant improvements designed to protect the venue's early 20th century grace while placing it firmly on 21st century underpinnings. The Bowl has become a home for the performing arts in Santa Barbara. As the largest outdoor amphitheater in Santa Barbara County, capacity 4,562 the Bowl retains its intimate ambiance while offering the freedom of a beautiful and natural outdoor venue.

The mission of the Glendon Association is to save lives and enhance mental health by addressing the social problems of suicide, child abuse, violence, and troubled interpersonal relationships. The Glendon Association conducts ongoing research in the areas of destructive and self-destructive behavior, parent-child relationships, and intimate relationships. The Glendon Association shares this research with mental health professionals and the public through a wide variety of presentations, publications, and radio and TV interviews.
