I am a biologist broadly interested in molecular evolution. This includes the theoretical aspects of phylogenetics and population genetics, and its applications to functional genomics of agriculturally interesting species as well as biodiversity science. The core of my research is understanding variation in rates of molecular evolution among species and along genomes. Most recently, I am interested in genotyping models and accounting for genotype uncertainty in population genomic studies of polyploids. I also work on strategies for phasing haplotype sequences from polyploids. I use genomic data from short-read and long-read technologies to evaluate demographic histories and patterns of selection primarily in grasses, primates, and chickens.I have been doing research in molecular evolution since 2008. I started with sweet potato population genetics and have since worked on a range of projects in genomics across plants, birds, insects, and primates. I have broad statistical training and expertise, and have developed several tests relevant to gene duplication. I am especially interested in strategies for model selection. I use a range of programming languages to achieve project goals. I have lab experience for genomics, field experience, have designed and taught classes and workshops.
