After 30 years as a physician, semi-retirement has allowed me to pursue my interests beyond medicine.As a member of the Board of Directors for the Longleaf Alliance I assist in fundraising and promote awareness of the ecological importance of longleaf pine through presentations to civic and landowning groups.In my commitment to my alma mater, Wofford College, I serve as Vice-Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee and have served as a member of the Alumni Executive Committee. I support the Annual Fund; the Theatre Workshop; and helped establish and currently participate in a mock interview program for pre-med students with locally established and academic doctors. I also help lead ongoing fundraising efforts with fellow football alumni to endow student athlete scholarships.My particular involvement with the Environmental Studies department has led to The Tyson Family Lecture on the Preservation and Restoration of Southern Ecosystems.Through this involvement with the Environmental Studies Department and my work with the Longleaf Alliance and the SC Wildlife Federation I have sought to provide connections for students interested in pursuing environmental studies.
