George Blomme Work Experience Details
  • Principal Transportation Consultant In Private Practice
    Principal
Principal Transportation Consultant In Private Practice Aug 2014 - Present
    New York, Ny
As Principal Consultant, I respond to the needs of communities nationwide when they are faced with the traffic impacts of new transportation facilities being constructed nearby (new airports, new major highways, new subway construction, etc.). I evaluate the community's options, and recommend ways for the community to engage the new facility developer in order to realize some benefits including plans for re-routing extra traffic past the community, new community parks paid for by the developer, and other alternative strategies.
  • Senior Project Manager For Transportation Consultancy
Senior Project Manager For Transportation Consultancy
Senior Project Manager For Transportation Consultancy Sep 2010 - Present
    New York, Ny
I advise communities and neighborhood groups on the amount of vehicular traffic new facilities such as Metro lines or airports will generate in their immediate vicinity. Importantly this gives the communities the knowledge to negotiate with new-facility-sponsors to develop parkland or athletic fields as trade-offs for the increased traffic load. (See "Transportation and Aviation Planning" below for more details)

  • Transportation & Aviation Planning
    Principal Project Manager
Transportation & Aviation Planning Jan 2010 - Present
    New York City, Ny
I now provide complete and comprehensive evaluations of the impacts of new transportation facilities and services on communities. I do evaluations of all conceivable impacts of new transport facilities on neighborhoods singularly or combined. Communities that understand the neighborhood impacts of subway extensions, new airport terminals, or any kind of new transportation service, have a solid framework to negotiate their own improvements as trade-offs with the transportation operator(s). If a subway line extension is coming to a neighborhood bringing construction trucks and crews, and then discharging substantial volumes of people into buses or cars, a reasonable trade-off might for the community could be at least a new park, some playgrounds, or improved security at schools. The transportation provider would cover these costs over a 20-year period as a quid pro quo against the environmental impacts of the new transportation services.Response has been favorable: I've been able to check my recommendations for a current project against the actual results of previous projects, making adjustments to my current recommendations to closely mimic successful recommendations and strategies from previous projects.
