I took part in the University of Sydney's Business School Peer Mentoring Program as a mentor to incoming business students to the university. In this position, I was able to engage with and demonstrate a range of interpersonal skills, including:- Further developing my leadership skills through assisting new business students in settling into university life via answering questions, guiding them to different services available to them, highlighting expectations and regulations, and offering support and advice.- Displaying strong emotional intelligence through showing empathy to mentees, understanding how to best respond to and guide mentees without requiring explicit verbal communication – ultimately enhancing relationship building skills.- Demonstrating my highly developed communication skills across different levels (mentees, other mentors and the coordinator).

My role as a HOST Member involved training new crew members, evaluating crew members, and communicating between staff and the management team. Skills developed through this experience include:- Strong communication skills across customers, colleagues and managers; as demonstrated in communicating between staff and the management team as a HOST Member, as well as receiving the ‘Best in Customer Service’ Award in 2016 for the site.- Outstanding leadership skills and responsibility, highlighted in training new employees, and evaluating and improving colleague performance.- Ability to take initiative, as seen in role as a HOST Member, in which I was motivated and determined to solve customer problems and take on tasks that management set out (hosting birthday parties, getting stock).
