La Puente's community education program aims to promote the understanding of the issues of poverty through building relationships within the San Luis Valley of Colorado and beyond so that people might be inspired to action by compassion for those affected. We also plan events for the organization, conduct educational presentations at churches, schools and service clubs and coordinate with local media outlets to communicate La Puente's mission, needs and opportunities.- Planned, organized and implemented ten fundraising events that drew over 1000 attendees and raised over $300,000 for direct service programs.- Managed the creation of twelve quarterly newsletters sent to 7,500 US households containing a collection of photos, quotes and stories about clients served.- Networked with business owners, local government officials, other non-profits, and donors in the community in order to develop and maintain consistent funding and strong community support.- Built and maintained relationships with individual donors as well as donors from schools, churches and service clubs out side of the local community. Bolling Air Force Base / Ramadi Iraq

I was a team leader with 2nd Civil Affairs Group in Anacostia Washington DC. In 2009 I returned from a one year deployment to Ramadi Iraq where I directed the Public Education Program for 1st MEF and the Dept of State Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT). I worked with Iraqi education leaders, Anbar University and US Government and non-Governmental agencies to improve the Iraqi education system.- Managed the reconstruction of the Al Anbar University Agricultural College, a $4 million project that included building construction and replacement of agricultural equipment. Coordinated closely with the Dean of the College to validate requirements and implement investment. Recognized by the Dean at the grand opening event.- Developed relationships with Iraqi education leaders including the Director General of Education(K-12), the President of Al Anbar University, and the Deans of multiple colleges. Collaborated routinely and closely with them to rebuild provincial education system.- Coordinated the reconstruction of the University library and Women’s College in close coordination with the President of Al Anbar University. Identified the specific requirements in coordination with University President, secured $200K in funding and managed implementation through completion.- Cold called US universities and US aid organizations seeking support, which resulted in the delivery of 32,000 textbooks, 25 used computers and educational agriculture software for 10,000 students of Al Anbar University. Personally recognized by the Al Anbar University President for assistance rebuilding the University.
