As a Class Teacher, I take sole responsibility for the progress and well-being of my class, something which has proved even more important this year amongst the impact of COVID-19. Having started my NQT year in the unique position of sharing responsibility for a Reception class and a mixed Y3/4 class, I am able to work comprehensively with other members of the school community and organise my time effectively to balance the individual requirements of this role across three year groups and my NQT course. At Christmas, due to a member of staff leaving, I was given sole responsibility for the Y3/4 class expanding my ability to manage a classroom effectively. Furthermore, due to the nature of a third lockdown, it has enabled me to experience unique opportunities teaching every year group both in school, and remotely. Currently, I am teaching key worker groups in school, whilst also live teaching via zoom and ClassDojo 37 pupils from my mixed Y3/4 class and a phase partner's Y5 class, who has recently gone on Maternity Leave, meaning I am confident to plan and teach well-structured and engaging obective-based lessons across the Key Stages and know what is required of me to do so.

I was previously a Practitioner for Building Bricks Wraparound Care Team and Pre-Schools. I not only work at their Breakfast Club and After School Club at Hunsley Primary, but also at their Pre-Schools in Swanland and South Cave. I was an appreciated member of the teams, and worked independently and as part of three lovely teams to create and plan activities for the children to enjoy, and fed the children several times throughout the day. Part of the job required solving disputes, ensuring the health and safety of the children at all times and monitoring children's wellbeing.

I worked individually, and as part of a small team, to create and ensure the smooth running of day to day activities and events at Camp House In The Wood. Responsibilities included creating a varied and enjoyable program (including all-camp games like Capture the Flag, Clue and Rainbow Tag), communicating effectively with full-time staff, caring for and training a team of around 20 staff, and being their first point of contact should an issue arise, as well as encouraging team building and individual skills in each member of staff. As part of this role, I was trained as a fully qualified lifeguard, and in First Aid, and ensured the safety and enjoyment of the children and staff on camp at all times.

I spent two summers of twelve weeks as the camp counsellors/carer and Archery Instructor of between 7 to 12 children between the ages of 7 – 14. This meant ensuring the children’s enjoyment and safety AT ALL TIMES including during potentially dangerous activities such as Swimming and Archery. Working with children meant dealing with difficult “customers” such as picky eaters, those that do not want to be involved and resolving conflicts!
