Charlotte, Nc, Us
FPGA design engineer within the aircraft video group.
• Led the FPGA design team that repurposed a network interface board to bridge a proprietary fiber optic network to a standard copper Ethernet network allowing low-cost commercial components to be used for non-mission critical portions of the test system.• Assisted in the design a 10GHz, tunable, fiber optic network interface board that allowed multiple transmission frequencies over a single fiber thereby reducing fiber cable requirements and simplifying cable interconnect. • Part of the FPGA design team that designed, implemented and verified several large, complex, multi-designer FPGAs, participating in the creation of an engineering process that greatly improved the chance of success for similar future developments. • Part of the FPGA design team that introduced the concept of constraint random verification of complex FPGA designs resulting in fewer design defects and thus overall lower sustainment costs.• Assessed and resolved technical and scheduling challenges with an in-progress obsolescence redesign resulting in error free operation of new FPGA design during check out and timely project completion. • Designed and implemented a video transport that transferred six video sources over a single wire to multiple operator stations, improving the flexibility of video sharing, limiting capability loss and decreasing overall cabling weight.• Conceived and implemented a innovative method of receiving and processing missile video satisfying customer’s requirements at a lower cost by preventing the redesign of the obsolete missile video subsystem.• Led the design team responsible for the conception, design and development of our 3rd generation video graphics processor. Worked on both circuit card and FPGA designs, incorporating a mix of custom and off-the-shelf components to speed development and mange costs.
• Defined the requirements and architecture for a mission computer’s replacement processor module, participating in both design and checkout and producing a form, fit, functional replacement on schedule and within budget. • Participated on the team that architected our 2nd generation video graphics processor and led the design for the base-board portion, resulting in a module that provided twice as many video interfaces and 20 times the processing power in a smaller foot print.• Led the team that militarized a commercially available Video Frame Grabber module, resulting in a convection-cooled module that provided more reliable operation at half the cost.
