This 5 year project involves the cyclical examination of 4000km of railway earthworks within the territory of Scotland. In this role I allocate resources to all stages of the project;ensuring my team members and sub-consultants deliver the annual examinations and associated risk assessments within the required timescale. I organise and manage a team of 6 examiners who work remotely across Scotland; I am responsible for the safe delivery of the inspections as well as ensuring the technical content is appropriate to manage the risk to the rail network.I monitor progress of my project team and sub-consultants against the schedule and produce monthly update reports for the Amey commercial team. I also provide regular technical updates to the client.

I was the lead engineer responsible for setting out drilling locations,monitoring progress and detailing test holes to ensure adequate grout injections. Over the 9 month project 12,450 holes were drilled with 55,000 tonnes of grout injected to stabilise ground foot prints for the116,000 m2 development site. The site had 7 geological faults runningthrough the site with two worked coal seams out cropping and dipping within the site boundaries. Also several mine shafts were located that involved separate designs and approach to remediation.

After installation of monitoringdevices I worked with senior geotechnical engineers to producestability assessments and design remedial measures for slope failures.I also carried several drainage examinations to establish the cause ofexisting drainage problems and to develop designs to improve the longterm drainage of the area. I also carry out earthwork examinations torecord any movement indicators and establish a risk rating whichallowed the client to manage their asset and forecast budgets.

530 Specialist Team Royal Engineers is a small team within the BritishArmy dedicated to providing ground and civil engineering support for allthree services within the British Army. The team comprised of 15 menand a further 20 within other departments of the Royal Engineers.The team were involved with all aspects of site investigation from desktop study and planning to carrying out site investigations, contaminatedland surveys and pavement evaluations.
