GoNation is a social network platform that provides for local businesses, a new way to be discovered and to promote their services and, for customers, a website to discover in realtime the pulse of a city.I joined GoNation at a key stage, with the mission to rebuild and successfully launch the new platform. The backend was in Scala with Akka-Http and we relied on AWS services (DynamoDB, Aurora, S3, Elastic Beanstalk).

In the role of Scala Developer, my responsibilities included improving dashboards fed by real-time sensor data, creating reports using information derived from the data, and providing solutions to supervise and configure the equipment. Key contributions include: migrating to DynamoDB, designing Akka actors to handle the event flow, and tooling to automatically deploy in AWS. Eileo is a French start-up that creates car-sharing solutions for Hertz. Its core technology is a non-invasive connected device embedded in the vehicle. It allows entry and engine start only for the driver booked at that time, and provides real-time data from the vehicle back to the server. The booking process can be fully automatic, without interacting with any agent. I was involved in developing the application used by Hertz agents to manage the fleet or to assist drivers. I created visual designs, implemented business logic, and designed data models for several business domains. Responsibilities also included the maintenance of the pricing engine specific to our projects. I implemented features and web services to provide several booking services, to add Paypal as a payment solution and to manage fuel cards. From the real-time data coming from vehicles I created activity reports, invoice reports, and services to manage the fleet and the booking flow.Code reviews with peers were part of our working method.
