As President of Next Generation International (NGI) major responsibilities include setting overall vision and strategy for the organization, managing day-to-day activities and business development/fundraising, working with the Board to establish operational systems and policies, and developing strategic relationships with US and international partners. NGI is a US 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to supporting youth and their families in both domestic US and international settings. NGI was founded by a team of experienced professionals with a long history of designing and implementing programs in some of the most challenging environments in the world. NGI will focus on expanding programs and support for education including STEM, supporting youth empowerment and livelihoods, and supporting community programs for child protection, survivors of domestic violence, school based psychosocial programs, and other community programs that establish an enabling environment for youth.

Iraq

Responsibilities include managing all aspects of International Medical Corps (IMC) programs and business development in Iraq include managing relationships with multiple donor agencies and international partners and working directly with Ministers of several line Ministries and their designated representatives. This includes overseeing over 500 staff, 7 country offices, and delivering on multiple humanitarian and development programs. Program focal areas include: health care, humanitarian assistance and relief, community and civil society initiatives, youth programming, prevention of gender-based violence, and capacity building. Iraq

As Director of Health programs, responsibilities included managing all health projects for IMC in Iraq, developing new business and proposals, overseeing all interaction with the clients (donors and government of Iraq representatives), managing budgets and staff, and providing technical leadership for project design and implementation. This included managing a portfolio of projects from 5 different international donor agencies. These projects encompassed a wide range of activities from primary health care strengthening to advanced training and support for specialized tertiary services and health systems administration.

Iraq

Provided operational and management support to senior level staff for a $340 million USAID funded project in large scale agribusiness. Oversaw development of monitoring and evaluation program, grants program, training program, and interaction and collaboration with Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) and embedded Provincial Reconstruction Teams (ePRTs). Led project development of internal control systems for project implementation. Mentored and supervised expatriate and local national staff. Served in a high level advisory role for the Chief of Party and senior Louis Berger staff regarding program implementation in Iraq and delivery in extreme current conflict environments.

Washington D.C. Metro Area

Areas of responsibility included overall project management, staff management, subcontractor management, grant administration, business development, development of project work plans and budgets, and coordination with clients (ie USAID CTO/CO) and sector partners. Provided technical leadership and managed USAID-funded international health projects. Responsibilities also included close interaction with senior management and donor partners to explore areas for new business development.

Jordan

Served as Interim Chief of Party and managed the transition in leadership of this $14 million USAID funded project. This position was assumed during an abrupt change in management. Relationships with the client and in-country stakeholders were renewed and strengthened as well as relationships with subcontractors, NGOs, and other ongoing projects in Jordan. Responsibilities included leading strategic planning, contract negotiations, and project implementation and developing collaborative projects with other USAID supported programs. Successfully managed the project and established a strong foundation for full-term implementation.

Iraq

Served as Chief of Party for the USAID funded Iraq Health Systems Strengthening (IHSS) Project from; (mid-contract) to end of contract (November 2004). Assumed project leadership in time of crisis and transformed it into a productive project for USAID, the Coalition Provisional Authority and the Iraq Ministry of Health (MOH). Responsibilities included managing and directing approximately 100 local and expatriate staff in 5 offices across the country. Responsibilities also included providing technical oversight of the IHSS Project award, which focused on strengthening of health service delivery, strengthening of central MOH systems, oversight of health sector reform strategic planning, strengthening of the primary health care system, and management of a rapid response small grants program. Responsibilities include providing business development, consulting, and interim management support for biotechnology, research, education, and health care. Company activity focuses on international health care and educational projects including the design, commissioning, and management of hospitals, health care networks and educational institutes, the development of health systems strengthening programs and health sector reform consulting, development of telemedicine programs, distance learning and continuing medical education (CME), information management, and technical consulting. Designed management strategies and development tools for new hospitals and clinics, which included pro forma tools, staffing tools, pre-opening design and commissioning tools, and estimation of resource requirements based on clinical service mix. Participated in the development of strategic plans for private hospitals and affiliated universities in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South America. Numerous domestic and international health market and project feasibility studies were completed. Strategic planning, design, start-up, and interim management was provided for new companies supporting various aspects of health care delivery.

Chicago Illinois

Responsibilities included management of budgets and division personnel as well as coordinating all international, advanced technology, and information technology activities of the division. During this period international patient referral revenue was doubled within one year of assuming position. Developed and led implementation of numerous international health care projects, which included development of health sector reform strategies, implementation of telemedicine and advanced technology programs, and physician training programs. Much of the work involved coordinating and building relationships with Ministries of Health and Education and private provider networks in the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Republic of Yemen, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, and South Africa. Physician education and training programs were developed for delivery in these countries. Multiple site visits were led with physicians and health systems management personnel to hospitals and clinics throughout the region. Other accomplishments included organizing and delivering the first ever U.S. continuing medical education program n Pakistan through the use of distance learning technologies as well as the first American-Yemen medical conference in Sana’a Yemen.

National Cancer Institute, Frederick, Maryland

Research focused on the molecular mechanisms of signal transduction and their relationship to cancer and immune system disease onset, progression, and management. This included the study of the mechanism of action of specific conditions such as breast cancer, leukemia, HIV infection, AIDS, and immunosuppressive diseases. Numerous peer-reviewed publications, review articles, book chapters, and symposium proceedings were published (see attached CV Supplement: Publications). The National Cancer Institute Outstanding Performance Award was received as evidence of excellence in cancer research.

National Cancer Institute, Frederick, Maryland

As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cytokine Molecular Mechanisms Section responsibilities included supporting ongoing independent research into mechanisms of interluekin-2 function and T cell mitogenesis. This included contributions as a member of a multidisciplinary team focused on identifying interleukin-2 receptor associated protein kinases. Numerous peer-reviewed publications, review articles, book chapters, and symposium proceedings were published (see attached CV Supplement: Publications above).

Advised on technology applications and recent advances in cellular signal transduction with specific focus on the control of apoptosis and its relationship to cancer treatment.

Independent consulting included the design and delivery of courses for professionals interested in obtaining state-of-the-art training in cellular signal transduction and its relationship to immune system function. This included developing curriculum and designing and delivering didactic and laboratory training programs. Responsibilities also included training personnel and leading course deliver.
