Assisted engineers by setting up sheets using the company templates. Used the sheet set manager to update the properties of each sheet. Learned how to create a storm, and sanitary sewer pipe network, after working with the engineers I would use their recommended pipe slopes to update the piping. Assisted engineers by working on their red lines to make changes, and corrections to the sheet set. Cleaned up survey files by converting the line work provided to the Kimley-Horn standard layers, and line types. Created EG, and FG surfaces using the line work provided by the surveyors.

Used Civil 3D to analyze, and grade sites to the required constraints set by the engineer. Assisted the cad manager by creating corridors for access roads, and also creating the grading for the access roads. Was responsible for grading the temporary turns needed for the trucks to deliver the wind blades. Assisted the cad manager by helping to create, and update sheets in the sheet set manager. Created plan and profile sheets to show the contractor the changes in elevation of the terrain.

Assisted XTO Energy principal pipe designer by using CADWorx to create 3-D pipe drawings, and isometric drawings. Created pipe racks to illustrate how pipe services would be oriented above ground Isometric drawings were used to assist the contractors by showing how piping should be installed. Reviewed codes, and standards to make sure pipe drawings and isometric drawings were designed to the correct specification.

Using Creo to update piece parts and assembly drawings and models by reviewing engineering markups to ensure proper design. Reviewing Caterpillar standards to make sure each piece part and assembly meet the correct specification. Creating change notices for the production team to illustrate what changed from one revision to the next giving them the information needed to create the final product.

Assisted the team by creating ductile iron, and flange pipe drawings based on the engineers design. I reviewed shop drawings of ductile iron butterfly valves, plug valves, and ball valves to create a scaled representation of the valve to help field team cut the pipe to the correct length so they could add the valves in without problems. Used the US Pipe code book to create detailed width of pipe to make the drawing easier to read, and pipe easier to see on paper. The US Pipe code book, and the American code book were used to get dimensions of pipe fittings to create a scaled drawing of fittings. Created a Auto-CAD drawing based on the specifications outlined by the engineer to represent the overall layout of piping from the yard to inside the building.

Assist the design team by creating Solidworks drawings of flood proof doors, and access hatches. These doors, and hatches were pre created in the library provided by a former designer. My job was to edit the door, hatch when necessary by changing dimensions of the door, or hatch. Due to continued business from loyal customers I rarely had to change the format of the entire door, or hatch. I often changed the location of nuts, bolts, and handles on hatches. I also had to change the location of handles, windows on doors. Coordinated with the shop team to make sure product matches design specifications.

Assisted engineers by creating a CAD drawing of the plumbing isometric used to illustrate the layout of piping throughout the entire hotel. Coordinated with the mechanical EIT to locate the best place for the layout of plumbing for the roof top units, make-up air units, air handlers, and mechanical room. Reviewed the Bell and Gossett shop drawings to get the dimensions of ball valves, butterfly valves, and plug vales to give the contractor a scaled representation of how big the valve would be for easy installation. I referred to the Uniform Plumbing Code book to get the dimensions of piping used throughout the building. Coordinated with engineers, and architects for the placement of piping for each level of the hotel.

Assisted engineers by using their red line drawings to create CAD drawings of HVAC schematics. I used shop drawings of Trane air handling units to get the actual dimensions of the unit. This allowed me to create a scaled representation of the unit on the roof plan. I learned how to create the ductwork that’s used to create the link between the air handling unit, vav, and each room in the building. I used dimensions provided by the engineer to create the 10 inch by 12 inch duct, or 6 inch round duct for example. Coordinated with engineers for the placement of the HVAC system indicated by their red line drawings.

Used drafting equipment to teach students basic hand drawing techniques. These techniques included multi view drawings, isometric drawings, and perspective drawings. Used Auto-CAD to teach students the proper way of creating a CAD drawing. They first learned how to use the basic tools in Auto-CAD, after learning the tools, and tool palettes they begin to create basic multi view drawings of mechanical objects. I had them take measurements of their hand drawn isometric drawings using an architectural scale so they could use those dimensions to create the same isometric drawing in Auto-CAD.

During this 2 week contract position I spent one day with Mr. Shales taking measurements of a national armory in Hartsville, SC. We used a bosch laser distance measurer to get accurate dimensions of the armory. I used the redline drawings we used on site to create the Auto-CAD drawing. This was a great experience because I was able to learn how to set up layers in Auto-CAD. I created a floor plan for a government renovation.

Assisted homeowner by creating a concept design for additional activity space attached to back end of his house. I spent one day at his house taking measurements in an unused bedroom, and back porch. He wanted to convert this area into a bar, bathroom, and kitchen. I used Auto-CAD to create a floor plan, and Form-Z to create 3-D images to bring his ideas to life.
