Hi, I'm Gerald, a self-taught full-stack software engineer specializing in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, and MySQL. Coming from a disadvantaged background in South Africa with little financial backing and limited access to opportunities, I did not let these circumstances stop me from following my dream of starting a successful career in tech. While others went to universities, I spent days, months, and years sharpening my skills through project-based learning, online courses, and tutorials. I am proud of the resilience I have developed.In 2024, I was accepted as one of the first members of Project Y—a membership for high-potential talents from disadvantaged backgrounds. I was selected as one of 35 members from over 21,000 applications. Since then, I have been enrolled in a 7-month full-time, full-stack bootcamp with an emphasis on AI and I am currently gaining first job experience. I am working from a co-working space in the middle of Johannesburg, participating in soft-skills development, communication, and other non-technical training to sharpen my competencies.As a member of Project Y, I strongly care about creating a more equal world for the next generation. I am hoping to work with businesses who value the same and provide me with the chance to develop and prove my abilities and skills.
