Gerald has appeared as counsel in diverse jurisdictions and in a diverse range of matters, including successful challenges to the constitutional validity of the National School Chaplaincy Program and the successful defence of a claim that the prohibition on horses produced by artificial insemination in thoroughbred racing is anti-competitive. He also acted for former Deputy Prime Barnaby Joyce when Mr Joyce's eligibility to sit in the Federal Parliament was referred to the High Court.Before coming to the Bar, Gerald was employed as an Associate to the Hon W M C Gummow AC, former Justice of the High Court of Australia, and then as a solicitor at Mallesons Stephen Jaques (now King & Wood Mallesons). He has also lectured in Federal Constitutional Law at the University of New South Wales.Gerald is currently chairman of the Internal Appeals Tribunal of the New South Wales branch of the Australian Labor Party.
