Optical Materials And Devices Graduate StudentUniversity Of Oregon Jun 2014 - Apr 2016Eugene, Or, Us-Elected by peers to deliver keynote address to 50+ industry professionals at corporate dinnerHigh Powered Pulsed Fiber Laser Tasked with constructing a working fiber laser, with an erbium doped fiber as its gain medium. In this open ended project, the goal was to first understand the physical operational mechanisms, and then to optimize the performance of the laser. - Aligned fiber bench with 84% efficiency, a laboratory record. - Conducted a factorial design experiment in order to determine optimal SMF-EDF fusion splice parameters. - Gained experience in constructing connectors, fusion splicing, fiber coupling, and operating high powered fiber laser that employed a ring cavity, with erbium doped fiber as the active gain medium.Dispersion Characterization for Erbium Doped Fiber -This experiment aimed to determine the optimal length of erbium doped fiber to use as an active gain medium in a high powered pulsed fiber laser. -Utilized a Mach-Zehnder Interferometer in order to measure group index and total dispersion of pumped Erbium doped fiber, Er-80.-Developed experimental expertise with lens systems, Michelson Interferometers, Fabry-Perot Cavities, free space to single mode fiber couplers, SLMs, spectrometers, wave front sensors, fiber Bragg gratings, fusion splicers, photo detectors, piezo electrics, optical fibers, resonators, connecters, polarizers, laser diodes, mirrors, optical electrical modulators, oscilloscopes, external cavity diode lasers, Mach-Zander interferometers, and M2 tools-Displayed extensive knowledge of Mathematica, RP Fiber Power, Microsoft Office, and MATLAB programs as analytical tools.-Excelled in courses that emphasized geometric, wave, and non-linear optics, quantum mechanics, electricity and magnetism, solid-state physics, and laser physics. -

Student ResearcherDr. Dean Livelybrooks Geophysics Research Group Mar 2013 - Mar 2014Our research focused mostly on an electromagnetic method of sub-surface imaging called Magnetotellurics. Magnetotellurics utilizes natural electromagnetic fields to deduce the composition of rocks and materials under the earth's surface.
-
Student ResearcherAstronomical Spectroscopy Research Mar 2012 - Dec 2013Our team sought to obtain spectral data for various stellar objects. Using an Ocean Optics spectrometer and a Celestron telescope, we constructed our own set-up in an effort to deliver data with high signal-to-noise ratios. For my work in this group, I was awarded the 2013 Jim Girard Scholarship for "outstanding work" and "strong leadership skills."
-
Undergraduate Teaching AssistantUniversity Of Oregon Sep 2012 - Mar 2013As a UTA, I aided in the instruction of students in 200 level physics courses. The courses were the 200 "sequence," which covered everything from newtonian mechanics to general relativity. I helped guide students through homework problems, understand fundamental concepts, and get ready for tests. I did this work in both a classroom and lab setting.
