The dual capacity of the Director of Operations and Business Development and the Center's Associate Director, in coordination with the Singh staff, leads the effort to formalize working collaborations between the Center and external groups in both the public and private sectors. The role operates cross-functionally to ensure compliance at the various levels of engagement. In addition, Gerald develops and, as applicable, implements overall strategies for the Center to enhance its priorities in research and innovation; engagement; and education through the interaction with the Center's Advisory Boards and Singh staff. Gerald also identifies, facilitates, and executes strategies for broader engagement with external companies and institutions to increase the use of the Center's resources as well as further support the developmental translation of innovative technologies and areas of expertise created at Penn in the field of nanotechnology. Finally, he assists the Singh Center Director through internal data analytics and business office engagement, providing advice on facility charging rates and goals and representing the Singh Center's activities to internal and external stakeholders.

The Quattrone Nanofabrication Facility (QNF) Senior Manager of Lithography and Process Engineering (LPE) with his team directly supports the QNF users for the optimization and development of their lithographic processes and beyond. The primary focus is to train users with core competencies to help them achieve tangible and lasting performance improvements in the development time and quality of their projects.

GUI Development Lead for the next generation airline messaging system SITATEX Online using the Dojo toolkit.

Duties included training new research group members, assisting in cleanroom activities and presenting bi-annual seminars on research progress. Fabricated nanoscale copper wires (interconnects) for electrical resistivity evaluation and physical modeling. Also developed a J2EE web-based multi-threaded statistical simulator to test the impact of interconnect process variations on future microprocessor performance.

Mentored and managed two undergraduate students in Electrical and Computer Engineering in on-chip interconnect research.

Provided training as a part-time indoor rock-climbing gym instructor and performed duties as an active route-setter.

Performed physical characterization of the POWER4 microprocessor at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. Interacted with industry leaders while honing programming skillset. Analyses revealed an opportunity to reduce power consumption and heat dissipation by a careful treatment of the M4 clock pins. Statistical correlations between gate area the number of latches were performed using Origin 7 and programming in Origin C for a priori insight. Newer methodologies resulting from this work were applied to consumer technologies produced by IBM.

Developed performance evaluation software in Java to assist computed kidney image topography analysis for cancer research with extensive Java front-end design and programming.
