Gerard created the first translated digital library of world-class educational quality math and other subject lessons for free use by the children of Afghanistan. The project also included the compilation and creation of extensive educational material structured for offline and online use. A primary component of this project was the translation of Khan Academy math lessons into the two languages of Afghanistan, Dari and Pashto. At the start of 2016, Gerard turned over the leadership of the translation of Khan Academy lessons to Trust in Education, a non-profit focused on improving education and opportunity in Afghanistan. Gerard will continue to provide technical assistance for this translation project, and will continue to assist with assembling and organizing additional educational materials that will be helpful to educate the young children of Afghanistan, so they can grow up to lead their country away from extremism and oppression, particularly of women.
