Formualion work aimed at improving the photolytic stability of various photoluminescent systems involving both coated product and dispersion / paint type applications. Expereinced with working with vendors to screen and select various stabilizing agents, raw materials and dyes to optimize performance for various applications.

Participated in the design and development of Polaroid's line of instant films for the consumer and professional markets. Responsible for providing support for research projects aimed at improving the quality of Polaroid’s instant films. Techniques and instruments employed included: GPC, HPLC, NMR and FTIR. Method development work included the molecular weight determination of photographic gelatin, the characterization of dispersing agents and the study of yellow dye image stability via HPLC. Product support work included raw material analysis and the setting of chemical specifications based on photographic performance. Specialized “defect” analysis training utilizing FTIR-Microscopy.

Analyzed, tested and characterized Betz and competitor products. Products were chiefly synthetic polyelectrolytes with applications in the waste and process water industries. Techniques employed for product characterization included: Intrinsic Viscosity, GPC, and C13 NMR. Key accomplishments included the initiation and development of LALLS (Low Angle Laser Light Scattering) as an additional method for characterizing the molecular weight of polymers.

Thermal Analysis and Inorganic Analysis groupsPerformed analyses on synthetic and natural resins, adhesives and composite materials via DSC, TGA and DTA. Additional responsibilities for trace metal analysis of various ore, catalyst and water samples requiring frequent use of an AA and DC plasma spectrophotometer.
