Gerardo Vendemia was born in Gaeta (LT) in 1986.He attended the Liceo Scientifico “L. Garofano” in Capua, graduating in 2005. Following in his father’s footsteps, he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Federico II University of Naples.Alongside his studies, he developed a passion for collecting banknotes, attending exhibitions and conferences. Attracted by research on monetary circulation, he collaborated with Guido Crapanzano.After graduating, he created the Cartamonetaitaliana.com website, to disseminate news for free. It quickly became the most visited in the sector.In 2009, he joined the “Quotation Committee” of the “La Cartamoneta Italiana” catalogue by G. Crapanzano and E. Giulianini. Since 2014 he has been responsible for the complete revision and updating of quotations. Since 2018, as co-author, he is the sole person responsible for the text, which can be considered a reference for collecting Italian banknotes.Since 2013, he has published numerous articles in specialized magazines such as the Giornale della Numismatica, Cronaca Numismatica, the “journal” of the IBNS.Since 2016, he has been a numismatic expert at the Chamber of Commerce of Rome (n°2242) in the category “XXIV – Antiquities and fine arts” and “Life Member” of the International Bank Note Society.In the same year, he joined the Italian Numismatics Professionists and, in July 2022, the exclusive National Register of NIP Experts (RENNPE), for “high specialization and recognized experience” in paper money. For the NIP, he has held the position of advisor since 12/05/23 for the three-year period 2023-26.In October 2017 he became a member of the Italian Academy of Numismatic Studies, for which he held the role of Auditor from 2020 to 2022 and that of Councilor from 2022 to 2024.Since February 2024 he has been registered in the Register of Technical Consultants of the Court of Rome for the category "NUMISMATICS".He has been a teacher of Mathematics since 2020. For three consecutive school years he taught at the "Luigi Veronelli" Institute in Curti.He currently manages the website www.cartamoneta.com, the largest e-commerce site for Italian collectible banknotes, in the role of Sole Director of the company Cartamoneta.com Srl.He has collaborated with numerous private individuals, scholars and institutions, for exhibitions, conferences, publications, film sets and museum installations. He deserves credit for having reconstructed the historical events of banknotes, proofs, and paper material in general, which otherwise remained anonymous.
